Uncertainty… Your Place of Victory

When the pressure is on… when you face the giant in your life and recognize you can’t take another step without Divine intervention, that’s your place of victory.

I’ve recently experienced the drama of waiting for Hurricane Irma to decide what path she would take – to the left, to the right, or right up the center of Florida. Weather experts referred to it as the cone of uncertainty.  Interestingly enough, before Irma showed up, I had my own personal hurricane going on. I was dead center in the cone of uncertainty – without God’s direction – I was lost. What’s my next step Lord?

Irma showed up and suddenly my priorities changed. I got an answer but certainly not one I expected. My own story faded in the background as I prepared for the unknown, continuously making decisions…

    • Do we evacuate out of the state?
    • What about our family?
    • Get supplies for how many days?
    • Important papers – where are they?
    • What does anticipate the worst look like?
    • And so many, many more… most didn’t matter.

We were to trust God to be Who He says He is and do what He says He will do.

Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.  Deut 31:6 (NKJV)

Admittedly, I was not always the best example of peace. “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!Mark 9:24 (NKJV)

Anxious, antsy, agitated… how to describe this unexpected need to wash everything that would fit in my washer and dryer. I knew I was over the top the day I was hoping my husband would change his clothes so I could wash what he had on. Seriously? Irma snacks were gone long before Irma arrived. I cycled through several TV stations – expecting to hear something other than catastrophic or perhaps a report that Irma was heading out to sea. Not happening.

It was midnight Sunday. Irma had danced around the west coast of Florida and now was barreling up Central Florida and expected to come over our heads. Over our heads?  Everyone in the house was asleep. The power went out. My faithful Beagle Bailey and Olaf the Boxer were at my feet. Battery light reflected off their eyes – they knew something was wrong. That’s when it happened. Tired of fear, tired of waiting, I had enough of all this drama. Enough with the fear! Irma would arrive whenever and wherever she chose. There was nothing more I could do about it. I let go and turned my eyes of faith toward the only One who could protect us. I found my place of victory.

The morning after… our family, pets, homes, vehicles and livestock were protected – waves of gratitude overlooked the downed trees and limbs – the lack of power, internet and cell coverage. Reports began to come in of neighbors getting their power back. Two days, 4 days, a week and the distance between “no power” and “stay away I’m cranky” got shorter and shorter as the days went by. I was reaching that dark place where words spoken in frustration cannot be taken back. And on the 12th day there was power. Hallelujah!

We returned home and easily picked up where we had left off – but we were no longer the same. We had been gifted with a renewed love for family and friends… gratitude for the simple things in life… and a clearer perspective on what matters most.

My personal cone of uncertainty seems so insignificant in comparison to what we just experienced – to what others are still experiencing because of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria – not to mention other natural disasters currently taking place. What about you… are you walking out the season before you from a place of victory? Are you in the center of your own personal cone of uncertainty? Invite the question… Lord what gift are you offering me through this trial?

When the pressure is on… when you face the giant in your life and recognize you can’t take another step without Divine intervention, that’s your place of victory.

P.S.  Is this your season of uncertainty?  Place of victory – how does this perspective influence how you choose to respond to your current circumstance?  Tell us about it below in the comments.
