And Now… What’s Best for Me

And now I’ll do what’s best for me… Some “cringe” at the sound of that. You believe that putting yourself first is <— fill in your own judgement —>.

What’s not best for me

I’ve been there. At an early age I heard these messages “don’t be selfish, be more or not good enough” I learned to give beyond what was reasonable. In search of recognition or applause from a source that only demanded more.

It becomes habit. If we were honest our words would be, and now…

I’ll do what’s not best for me.
I’ll jeopardize my health because someone else or something matters more.
I’m the best person for this job – can’t risk delegating.
My feelings don’t matter – I’ll hold my tongue.
If I do this one more thing, perhaps…
I’ll let go of my well being so someone else will notice and rescue me.

Change is Not the Enemy

After over 15 years as a Life Coach and mentor this statement still holds true, Change is not the enemy, fear is. What are we afraid of? As a child I was a people-pleaser, always in search of affirmation. Affirmation that never came. As an adult workaholism became my people pleasing habit of choice – lots of recognition there. The thought of slowing down or taking a break was unheard of. What was I afraid of?

Let God be the Giant Slayer

Just as God gave Moses exactly what he needed to accomplish great things, he will equip us in the same way. If He calls us to slay giants, He will make us into giant slayers.” –Christine Caine

Experience has taught me that half of me or an unkempt me or a dream-less me is no gift to anyone. God created us as individuals and speaks to us – to you and to me – to always come up higher. So why would we just say “No, not me.”

... half of me, an unkempt me, or a dream-less me is no gift to anyone. #HelpingYouBeYou #YouMatter Click To Tweet

Let God handle what’s not within your responsibility to handle. If He’s calling you to slay giants, then it won’t contradict His Word –

“do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” – 1 Cor 6:19-20 NKJV

My Personal Time-Out

There are times when what’s best for me is simply a fanciful thought – an unrealistic adventure. This blog’s featured image takes me back in time to a playful, carefree season of my life. Let’s not over-complicate what’s best for ourselves. Would love to hear what you think of this image. Do share in the comments!
