It’s About Choices

Coach Me, Please | Part 3

Our Choices Matter. They can support, sidetrack or derail what matters most – your priorities. Regardless of your goals, your health is vital. It is foundational whether you are a business owner, corporate professional, stay-at-home mom, student, empty nester, retiree or any other role you serve. Wherever you go – whatever life pursuit you are travelling toward – your health goes with you.

With few exceptions, your health story tells the truth of what you value most. If you could choose your best health possible, would you? Are you interested in living a longer healthier life? Are you ready to move from a quick-fix short-term approach to embracing lifestyle changes?

Mindset – Create Health

The first choice is to set a goal to Create Health. This may seem intuitive – who wouldn’t want to create health? Unfortunately many have settled for “not sick” vs aiming for “thriving” health. They have become accustomed to aiming for Doctor’s advice to “lose weight” and are trapped in the diet yo-yo, not-so-merry-go-round. Without a clear picture of why “thriving” health matters nothing will change.

Do it now – imagine a healthier you, Body – Mind – Spirit – Finances.

Paint the picture and include energy, stamina, healthy weight goal, recreational activities, sports, exercise, your physical appearance… Include fun time, play time, rest time, creative time, family time, social time, work time…

Get Real – What’s Your Current Reality

Identify unhealthy patterns and triggers. What are your Habits of Disease? A healthier you includes good nutrition, proper sleep, ample exercise, and successful stress-reduction techniques – How are you doing in these areas? Take a look at the picture you painted for creating health above and document how you are doing in those areas now.

Environment Matters

Transform your world into a supportive environment where healthy habits can grow and thrive – home, church, community, work; your circles of influence – relationships. How do they support you? What needs to change?

Go back and include environment and relationships in both your Create Health picture and your Current Reality.
