What a morning! During the busyness of multi-tasking, the Lord shows up for me in a gentle whisper. I stop everything, grab my journal and wait – knowing full well that I’m about to receive a Heavenly download. It was an unexpected detour in an otherwise very structured day.
So much to do, I leave tomorrow for a Women’s weekend retreat. My internal Mary and Martha are at odds with each other. Perhaps you know their story…
According to the Gospel of Luke: As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She was upset that Mary wasn’t helping. Jesus said to her “…Mary has chosen what is better.”Luke 10:42
My Martha wants to leave my home perfect for my husband – laundry done, litter box cleaned, and so much more. My Mary reminds me that I’m speaking tomorrow night; that I need to be in prayer for this weekend; and that I need to at least have a message outline.
But then God… He rearranges my priorities and whispers a thought. I know what’s coming. It’s happened to me before. I hear His “still small voice” (1 Kings 19:11-13) When I take that step of faith and begin to write, He provides what I call a Heavenly download. His message unfolds. Praise and worship music playing in the background I lose myself in obedience to Him.
As a communicator I’ve learned the difference between my words and a Heavenly download. I recognize that while I may not know God’s intention, my words will impact at least one person in a “breakthrough” way. My words may influence and encourage but when He speaks – His words have power to heal hearts.
This message is for us – yes, I too have been reminded what is better. The Lord wants our internal Mary to come and sit at His feet – to expect His Heavenly download. He wants us to act immediately when we hear Him whisper – to drop everything and trust that still small voice. No matter how that shows up for each of us individually, He makes it easy for us to hear – if we are willing.
I’m to ask you… Are you willing to hear from Him? Willing to follow-through on what He asks? What’s keeping you?
My prayer for us… Heavenly Father, we just thank and praise You for your presence in our lives. We thank You Lord that our relationship is personal – that you speak to us – that you equip us to do what you ask. What an honor and a privilege to serve You Lord! I pray that you speak to every person reading this post – that you whisper encouragement in their spirit – that you remind them how much you love them – that no matter their circumstance You have not forgotten them. I pray You give them an insatiable thirst to hear from You – and the courage to follow-through on your requests. I thank You in advance for the lives you’ve changed – for the hearts that long to hear from You, in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
