It’s About Action.

Coach Me, Please | Part 5

Clarity – That moment when the fog clears, and you SEE what you want next in your future. Clear on what matters most – you are ready to let go of the “Good” and the “Better” choices to focus your attention on what you now know is BEST. You have even anticipated the challenges and understand the resources you will need to accomplish your goals.

This place of knowing is so sweet – you hesitate. You want to stay a bit longer before you have to actually do the work – before you take the steps of faith. As your DIY coach, I invite you to come off this mountaintop and take action. There is joy in the journey!

Action – Write it Down.

blog5Did you write it down? No, you can’t keep it all in your head. I urge you to create a visual picture of your goals. Include details – especially a Target Completion Date. You’ll need it on those days when you wonder – when you second-guess whether it was ever real. Vision – your future reality – inspires you to stay faithful to your plan even when life gets challenging.

Map It Out – Keep it Simple.

What are the necessary steps to complete? List them in sequential order and include the estimated time to complete this project. We will use Health Improvement as your example. Steps might be:

  • Drink 64 ounces of water each day.
  • Eat Breakfast within the 1st hour of waking up.
  • Eat according to the nutritional plan chosen.
  • Sleep at least 7 hours per night.
  • Walk daily.

Depending on the size of your project, it may include several phases. We’ll call these Celebration Stops and each will have its own target completion date.

  • Start Date.
  • Lose 20% of body weight.
  • Reach 10,000 steps per day.
  • Consistently sleep a minimum of 7 hours per night for 30 days.
  • Reach goal weight.

Make Yourself Accountable.

Since this is a DIY Coaching project, you will need to identify an Accountability Partner. Who will encourage you to stay the course? Who will challenge you to come up higher? Who will remind you of your vision and why you started this project? Who will explore alternatives with you when you reach a roadblock?

“Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.”
- Langston Hughes

Give your Accountability Partner all the details, including your anticipated challenges. Set regular appointments to share your progress and keep every appointment! Your future depends on it.

Walk It Out.

You have a plan – Take Action – Start Walking It Out!

Celebrate Check Points.

Take time out to celebrate your success along the way. You might want to plan a reward for yourself.

Not on plan? Revisit the steps in your plan – make the necessary adjustments and continue the journey.

The Coaching Process Starts Here.

You have invested your time and created a clear plan to reach your next goal. Expect new goals to pop up along the way. Jot them down, but stay focused. You have learned a repeatable process that you can apply to your next goal. Yes! You can do this!
