Tucson… a Golly! experience

Two days into our Tucson, AZ stay and I still hear myself burst out with “Golly this is beautiful!”  “Golly” is an expression I reserve for those times when God’s creativity overwhelms me.  Big Bang?  Seriously?  How could anyone look at nature and not recognize the hand of God our creator?

A different kind of campsite, we arrived after a 4 hour drive from New Mexico to find a rock & cactus garden as our campsite. A hot afternoon, our first priority was to plug in the electricity and kick off the a/c in the RV.  It wasn’t long before our son P.J. joined us.  Group hug!!!  It had been way too long.  He took us on a whirlwind afternoon/evening experience. First things first… a wonderful Mexican meal at El Molinito restaurant.  Twin grandsons Preston and Cameron joined us and well, it was a sweet, sweet time with family.

We then went on a “paseo”… Let’s go for a ride through the Soguaro National Park. Wow and Golly!  I’ve never seen such a variety of cactus – saw my first jack rabbit too!  Up the mountain we went and the Flash Flood warnings began to sound off on our cell phones.  In Florida we receive the Tornado warnings, this was our first time receiving this kind of warning.  PJ assured us that this was not for us… I wasn’t buying it. :)   Our first stop… a photo op and I realized I was wearing the wrong shoes – sandals sunk into the mud. Wondered, Do  I even own the “right” shoes for mud?   Too much to see. Too much in

After a fun ride down the mountain, skirting a variety of “washes”   we found ourselves not far from the San Xavier Mission – Over 200 years old and rich with history. By the way, in case, like me, you didn’t know about washes… Definition: Arroyo (creek), also called a wash, a dry creek bed or gulch that temporarily fills with water after a heavy rain. The Church was closed to visitors but we managed to sneak a peak inside – absolutely magnificent!

Let's peak inside!

Let’s peak inside!

Magnificent!

To wrap up a most perfect time, our son treated us to snow cones at Shoobies; just couldn’t say no to a mango snow cone! PJ asks “What would you like to do next?  Karaoke?”  ROFL  Still plenty of Mountain Standard Time Zone left before bedtime,  our Eastern Time Zone bodies were ready to call it a day well spent!
