Rekindle the Wonder

Memories flood most of us during this time of year. We begin by remembering Jesus’s birth – the true reason for this season. Gratitude and awe at the humility of our King of Kings – who was born in a manger – and purposed to live so He could die to bring those who believe eternal life with Him.

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” ~ Isaiah 9:6 NKJV

Our mind’s eye clicks through Christmas memories – smiles, tears, laughter – all of it matters. We remember our favorite gifts – the ones we gave and the ones we received. How about those gifts that well, caused us to wonder… what were they thinking?

This year Paul and I were catapulted into the latest technology – an echo dot. What? I’ll be able to talk to it and it will talk back. I’m told that my grandchildren will teach us how to use it. I smile. The woman who was once a technological maverick is now wondering what in the world she’ll say to Alexa (what I’ll be calling the echo dot.)

Suddenly I remembered… years past we gave my parents a cell phone.  Visions of Paul trying to teach them how to use it brought more smiles. Mission impossible – they never quite got the hang of it. I’m hoping we’ll do better.  Either way – the heart behind the gift is the same.  Love never fails.

Have You Lost Your Wonder?

For some, life’s challenges may have dampened the joy of this season. I’ve lived those times. We forget why it matters. Instead we focus on what we no longer have – unmet dreams and expectations – lost loved ones – disappointments…

On this Christmas day, if this is you, I encourage you to put on the eyes of a child – look beyond your circumstance – and see the wonder of this season. Joy shows up with peace as companion, when we expect and receive it.

My Prayer for You

Praying each of you be filled to overflowing with the joy and peace of the Christmas season. I pray you are contagious – that all you encounter experience the Jesus light that shines through you.

God Bless you always.
