Life after Corporate America? 5 Essential Success Tips

Are you ready to transition from Corporate America and reinvent yourself?

Personal Do Overs are my specialty not just by training but also as a result of personal experience. I’ve learned how to succeed and how to fail. No matter the Do Over you have chosen, these 5 tips are key ingredients.  Invest in yourself by taking the time to consider them.  For those that want to know more about my journey, my personal #1 lesson learned is at the end.

1.  WHY ~  Why the Do Over? How BIG is your why?

Change starts in our mind and is often fueled by our heart. Passion motivates however is difficult to sustain over time if we aren’t clear on our destination.  Take time out now to imagine what your world will be like when you reach your goal.  Fast forward. You are there – perhaps a business owner, retiree, ministry leader, missionary, teacher… < fill in your dream here >

What’s different about you?  Describe your surroundings… your work environment; your home; your community.  Describe your relationships… who is with you? Describe your schedule.  How do you spend your time – work, social, personal development?  How many hours do you spend in each area?  Check in spiritually.  Why does it matter that you are there?  What difference are you making in your world?  Who needs you to show up and be successful?

2.  Why are you uniquely qualified to succeed?

What do you know about yourself?  Your personality? Your experiences? Your talents? Your education? Your resources? Make sure you fight the “fear and doubt” monster that will try to keep you from this exercise.   Ignore the nay sayer in your head and allow this moment of personal praise and recognition.  Keep it positive!

3.  What resources will you need?

Time to keep it real.  Know yourself – your personality strengths and challenges. Personal development – what additional training will you need? If you already know what business attracts you, identify the resources you’ll need to get it started.

4.  What obstacles do you anticipate?

If you have reached this step and skipped over step 1 you may have difficulty navigating through the anticipated obstacles.  If your goal matters you will have obstacles that’s the deal.  We can’t anticipate them all, but we can sure anticipate the fact that they will show up.  “If your goal matters you will have obstacles. That’s the deal.” ~ Coach Maggie

5.  What’s next?

If you have invested the time to answer these questions, you have a list of action items and some unanswered questions.  Prioritize them.  What is your first step?  Take it!

Coach Maggie’s 1 Lesson Learned

I matter (regardless of my role in life).  God said so.  Someone is waiting for me to show up in the fullness of my purpose.  I’m Called To Action!  After many failed attempts in my personal and business life I discovered the free gift of purpose and prayer. Prayer is my #1 go-to activity.  Without it, nothing I’ve shared makes a difference.

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thes 5:16-18 (ESV)
