Lasso the Wind? I think not!

What happens when you try to micro-manage a WIND personality? Lasso the Wind? I think not!

Speaking from personal experience first I laugh, then I am compelled to ask, “Really?” and finally I respond,

Not much!

Don’t know what I’m talking about? Ask me about taking the personality profile that describes “you” using the four elements found in nature. It’s simple and actionable. In a team setting, it releases the power of your most valuable resource, your people.

In the meantime I invite you to consider the WIND in nature.  Have you ever tried to lasso the wind? Wind blows in and blows out…

Wind personalities are vital. They fan passion’s flame.  Given the freedom to create – they are a fountain of fresh new ideas.  Wind folks speak to hear themselves think. Box them into a structure and they will soon die down and lose the very essence that drew you to them.

What to do then? Some simple tips:
  • Give them space to create. Most will not work traditional hours.  They often prefer to step away from their workspace to gain a fresh new perspective.
  • Affirm their progress. Show them how their contribution makes a difference.
  • Remember their need to have fun while they work.
  • The BIG picture first.  Don't drown them with details.  They need the big picture first; details are only on a need to know basis.
  • The eternal optimist, they will rally the troops.  Clear vision in hand they are powerful influencers.
  • Give them clear short-term objectives. Long-term projects simply won’t get done.
  • Help them finish by partnering them with a more detailed oriented person.
  • Given a few parameters, allow them to choose how to accomplish their goals.

And finally…. Never, never, ever put them in an environment where what they have to say is not welcomed or invited.  What would be the point?

You Matter!  People Matter!

Invest in yourself and in your team.  Sit back and watch the transformation!

Do you identify with the manager? with the WIND personality?

  • For years, I was on a team where each one of us was micromanaged. It was not only frustrating; it was also demoralizing. Thankfully, that’s not the case anymore. My new manager is amazing. I think he’s a WIND personality.

Me? Give me some direction, and I’m off to do my “magic.” :)

I don’t think I’m a true WIND personality, but I know have some of that in me. How much…? Don’t know until someone tries to box me in. :)

On that note… how can a WIND personality handle it if they are being micromanaged?

    Thanks for sharing.

    • So happy to hear you are no longer micro-managed! It’s unfortunate that there are so many out there unhappy with their work experience because of poor management training.

Your question deserves another blog post. Stay tuned for more on this subject!

Thanks for posting Daphne! My Wind thanks you too! :)
