A Better Place to Be…

Business & Pleasure… a fine combination!

Atlanta-bound for a Health & Wellness Conference, I planned several visits withWelcome to a Better Place to Be family and friends this past weekend. This was not always the case for me.

In my past experience as a global business consultant, I took pride in staying totally focused on the task at hand. I would wrap my trips with much preparation upfront and then a thorough time of debriefing on the back end. I efficiently scheduled my flights to arrive at night so that I could get to the office early the next morning.

This lifestyle choice took a toll on my health – one that I am in the process of reversing now. While I am still strategic about trips, my itinerary includes time out to complete the rest of me. And I do mean REST! My optimal health and wellness goals include a balance between work and play.

Clayton, Georgia Fall 2011One of my side trips was to the North Georgia Mountains. I was blessed with the vibrancy of the Fall colors and good times with friends. Elton & Gwen provided an overnight stay at their cabin appropriately named “A Better Place to Be”.

Scooter welcomed me to the
Fellowship Valley Retreat Center with his guard dog bark and wagging tail. Tina, a good friend and the Operations Manager, surprised me with one of her famous bowls of Chili.
Southern hospitality at its best!

There were so many more that were part of this special time.
ALL Y’ALLs know who you are! J

Are you Operating in the Red?

Operating in the Red? Is this Your Call to Health?A Call to Health…

  • Successful Leaders are in the habit of tracking numbers.
Whether it be their personal bank and investment accounts or perhaps business sales and financial numbers… we schedule time to monitor and make decisions based on this information. Operating in the red, is not an option for a strategic leader.

  • Successful Leaders know how to take action. When alarms go off in our tracking systems, we know what steps to take and/or where to get help to turn things around and get back on track.

  • Successful Leaders know the difference between Reactive and Strategic actions
Leaders anticipate success by casting a vision, setting goals and implementing systems that report and monitor their progress. Sometimes results surprise us and we are forced to react quickly. Ideally, we have anticipated challenges and have a strategic back-up plan.

Priorities ~Your Health, where does it rank?

Is there anything else in your life as important as optimal health?

The more clients I coach the more I realize that there are some priorities that are non-negotiable.  Unfortunately many of us learn about these only after a personal crisis.

Yes!  For me and for many others I've asked, there is something more important than optimal health… a personal relationship with God and the confidence that we'll be spending eternity with Him.

Optimal Health is next on my personal priority list.  After caring for my Move Your Health UP Your Priority List!senior parents for over 6 years, I've learned that second only to my faith, my personal health and wellness is next on my priority list.  Juggling many responsibilities, I ignored my own health in deference to my parents' quality of life.   But no more! I've stopped the downward spiral and am taking steps to permanent weight control and optimal health.

Step Away From The Vehicle! …a Self-Management Tool.

Split-second Potential Conflict Alert System – do you have one?

There are times in our busy lives when we suddenly reach a point where the next word we speak may very well be the beginning of a conflict. The actual conflict is taking place inside of us. How to respond: from our rational mind, our emotions, or for some of us, draw on God's wisdom?

Step Away From The Vehicle! It's easily a split second decision point. Think back. I'm guessing there have been a few times when your response was brilliant, conflict averted and it all resulted in positive outcomes. On the other hand, there were those times when maybe, well, we could have done better.

I've got some great success stories in my experience bank and there are some really “not-so-good” stories as well. As a result, I've learned some things which I'll pass on to you today.   Read the rest of this entry »
